Austin’s Trail of Lights is a very eagerly anticipated event.Hundreds and Thousands gather to marvel this great event that is stretched in a mile long loop around the Zilker Park.The story of the Trail of Lights stretches all the way back to 1965, when the Austin Parks and Rec Department decided to gift a four-night “Thank You” to the citizens of Austin. Called “The Spirit of Christmas,” the first edition of our favorite seasonal event featured a colossal smoldering Yule Log, local choirs, and a live Nativity. The festival runs December 7th – 21st, 2014. The trail will be open from 7:00pm to 10:00pm nightly. Disability & Special Needs Access begins at 6:15 Attendance has grown from 200,000 during city-production days to more than 450,000, and reaches a broad range of demographics. This year, Austin, let’s get together and make some magic happen for our 50th Anniversary. Let’s make it truly something special. It’s up to us to keep Yule spirit alive. We have fifty days to raise fifty thousand dollars for the Trail’s 50th Annivrsary, celebrating a tradition which has fostered joy for almost every December within memory.

2014 TRAIL OF LIGHTS FUN RUN Saturday, December 6th, 2014 7:00pm -10:00pm at Zilker Park The Austin Trail of Lights Fun Run is the holiday run you won’t want to miss! Get active and get a sneak peek at Austin’s favorite holiday celebration.

The two mile run will start at the historic Zilker Tree and end within the Trail of Lights. This is a unique opportunity to see the Trail of Lights before it opens to the general public. The Zilker Park route is family-friendly, all speeds are welcome, and tots in strollers ride for free. Costumes are highly encouraged – grab your Santa hat and your sneakers and make tracks to the best holiday run in town!
